Although family workers are generally trained to assess an individual’s or family’s overall strengths and risks, they may sometimes ignore the health and safety risks in the home, the property or the neighborhood. Organizational leadership, managers, and family workers will find these three tools useful for conducting quick interior and exterior home assessments, developing greater awareness of environmental risks that may endanger families in and around their home, tracking neighborhood trends in home-property health and safety risks, and identifying potential partners to assist in addressing these risks factors. If left unaddressed, a family’s physical health, safety, and general well-being will be in danger.
