State Fact Sheets for Grandparents and Other Relative Caregivers

The number of grandparents serving as primary caregivers for their grandchildren has increased nationally in the past twenty years. Staff members who work with families will find the state fact sheets useful in determining services that may be available for grandparents and other relative caregivers raising children. The state facts can prepare you to assist families with their inquiries for additional services and information.

The following fact sheet is provided courtesy of the AARP Foundation, Brookdale Foundation Group, Casey Family Programs, Child Welfare League of America, Children's Defense Fund and Generations United.

Grandparents and other relative caregivers often lack information about the range of support services, benefits and policies they need to fulfill their caregiving role. In an effort to remedy this situation, a group of national organizations working on behalf of children and /or seniors have prepared State Fact Sheets for Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children, which provide helpful state-specific data and information for each of the states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Learn more about the benefits and services that are available in your state! Go to State Fact Sheets for Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children
