First Thoughts on Getting Fathers Involved in Head Start
Building Blocks for Father Involvement

Abstract

There are two distinct themes consistently emerge as reasons that fathers get involved in early literacy programs with their children: fathers want to provide their child with a head start in reading and writing, and they want to bond more with their child. Father involvement coordinators, parent involvement specialists, and other staff members who work with families can find this guidebook and video useful as they explore some of the important foundational questions and steps that need to be addressed in planning an effective father involvement program.
