As part of an emphasis to improve Head Start program quality, academic degrees for members of teaching teams and home visitors are of primary importance. Distance learning is one option that is quickly growing in popularity. This catalog lists higher education institutions that offer complete programs of distance learning courses in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. To access the catalog, read the statement below and select the yes button at the bottom of this page.

Please read the following carefully before you access the Distance Learning Opportunities Catalog. The listings in this database provide links to web sites of online learning resources. Including these links does not imply endorsement in any way.

It is important to note that institutions listed herein are currently accredited by regional and/or national accrediting organizations. All institutions listed in this database with 2-year and 4-year degree programs are currently (as of most recent update) accredited by regional accrediting bodies. The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accredits 4-year institutions. Most of the 4-year institutions included here have NCATE accreditation.

Before beginning or continuing your coursework with any of the institutions included in this database, it is essential that grantee and delegate agency staff understand and be guided by the content of ACYF-PI-HS-00-03, Increased Funds Available for FY2001. Work with your education manager to ensure you are on the right path regarding professional development and to ensure that course credits accumulate to degrees and credits/courses from two-year degrees can be used toward four-year degrees.
