On December 12, 2007, former president Bush signed Public Law 110-134 "Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007" reauthorizing the Head Start program. This law contains significant revisions to the previous Head Start Act and authorizes Head Start through September 30, 2012.
On January 3, 2008 OHS published an Information Memorandum containing some of the major requirements in this Act that have an impact on Head Start programs. Head Start programs are advised to carefully review the Attachment to this IM as it contains the changes to the Act that OHS believes to be most relevant to programs.
A draft compilation of the amended Head Start Act is now available on the ECLKC. In addition, PDF versions of the draft compilation (which marks all changes in bold text), the official version of the Public Law, and the now superceded 1998 compilation are available for download.
