Abstract

"Nutrition and Your Health: Dietary Guidelines for Americans," published by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services, is designed to help families learn more about food choices that promote health and prevent disease. Head Start grantees, delegate agencies, and parents will find this information useful as they plan nutrition activities for the school year. The fourth edition of the booklet, published in 1995, also contained information about the then current dietary guidelines for Americans, the Food Guide Pyramid, and weight control.

INFORMATION: Attached is a copy of the United States Department of Agriculture United States Department of Health and Human Services publication entitled "Nutrition and Your Health: Dietary Guidelines for Americans." This booklet is designed to help families learn more about food choices that promote health and prevent disease. It contains the latest information about the dietary guidelines for Americans, the Food Guide Pyramid, weight control, and the new food label. Both program staff and parents will find this information useful as they plan nutrition activities for the upcoming school year.
