Abstract

The Head Start Bureau is interested in assuring that communities currently served by existing grantees will have an opportunity to continue receiving services to low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women through Early Head Start. Grantees and delegate agencies will find information in this memorandum on a fiscal year 2000 competition for the availability of financial assistance for Early Head Start programs in 49 select service areas of the country.

SUBJECT: Availability of Early Head Start Funds for FY 2000 - for Select Areas

INFORMATION: Attached for your information is a copy of a Federal Register Notice announcing a competition for the availability of financial assistance for the Early Head Start program for fiscal year (FY) 2000 in order to continue operating Early Head Start Programs in 49 select geographic areas of the country. These areas are listed in the attachment to the notice and cover the service areas for Early Head Start programs which were first funded in FY 1995. The Head Start Bureau is interested in assuring that communities currently served by these existing grantees will have an opportunity to continue receiving services to low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women through Early Head Start.

We will send you another notice, if funds become available in FY 2000 for a more general expansion of Early Head Start.
