Early Head Start Program Grant Availability
for Nationwide Expansion Competition in Fiscal Year 2001
AGENCY: Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
ACTION: Announcement of approximately $47 million in financial assistance to be competitively awarded to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide child and family development services for low-income families with children under age three and pregnant women.
SUMMARY: The Head Start Bureau of ACYF announces that applications will be accepted to establish or expand Early Head Start programs. Such programs provide early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive child development and family support services on a year-round basis to low-income families with children under age three and pregnant women in order to enhance children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development; to support parents' efforts to fulfill their parental roles; and to help parents move toward self-sufficiency.

DATES: The CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSION of applications is 5:00 p.m. (EDT) May 7, 2001
Applications received after the closing date will be classified as late and not considered for funding. Hand delivered, courier or overnight delivery of applications will be received during the normal working hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on or prior to the established closing date at the address below.
Applications transmitted to ACYF in any electronic form will not be accepted regardless of date of submission. All applications must be in hard copy form to be considered acceptable.

Indicate at the beginning of your Project Description Abstract/Summary: the State, County (ies) and specific geographic area (city, town, and/or community you are proposing to serve (see list at Appendix B).
If you plan to submit an application, please send a postcard, e-mail, or call the ACYF Operations Center at least four weeks prior to the submission deadline date with the following information: the name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the principal contact and the name of the organization. We need this information in order to determine the number of expert reviewers that will be necessary.
