Abstract

Financial assistance for the Early Head Start program for fiscal year (FY) 2001, to establish or expand programs nationwide, is announced in this Information Memorandum. This information would interest Early Head Start grantees who want to expand the number of children they enroll within the areas they currently serve or to initiate services in other local areas that are not currently being served.

SUBJECT: Availability of Early Head Start Funds for FY 2001 - for Nationwide Expansion Competition

INFORMATION: Attached for your information is a copy of a Federal Register Notice announcing a competition for the availability of financial assistance for the Early Head Start program for fiscal year (FY) 2001 for nationwide expansion competition.

Grants will be awarded to establish or expand Early Head Start programs. Current Early Head Start grantees may apply to expand the number of children they enroll within the areas they currently serve or to initiate services in other local areas that are not currently being served. Other applicants may not apply to operate programs in the areas that are already served by current Early Head Start grantees, but may apply to establish an Early Head Start program in an area which is currently unserved. See Appendix A of the attached notice for the list of geographic (service) areas currently being served and unavailable for new grantees. Appendix B of the notice indicates the funding available for the States.
