Program Information Report (PIR)

The Office of Head Start Program Information Report (PIR) provides comprehensive data on the services, staff, children and families served by over 2,500 Head Start and Early Head Start programs nationwide. Most data is collected annually, although grantees are required to report enrollment on a monthly basis. All grantees and delegates are required to submit Program Information Reports for each Head Start or Early Head Start program operated.

The PIR is an important source of descriptive and service data for the Head Start community, their partners, Congress and for the general public. The PIR data is compiled for use at the federal, regional and local levels.

Submitting the 2009 PIR

The 2009 reporting cycle begins in late May of 2009. Programs are required to report their PIR(s) in the Head Start Enterprise System (HSES).

This year delegate programs will submit their PIR(s) in HSES to their grantee agency for review and approval. Grantees will submit final PIR data to the Office of Head Start.

Programs that use a comma delimited format to submit their data into the PIR from reports generated in external software systems may use this method in the new HSES PIR (see Upload Formats).

PIR is now available in HSES.

The PIR survey is now available to Head Start and Early Head Start programs in HSES.
The deadline for submission of the 2009 PIR is Monday, August 31, 2009.
