Early Childhood Hearing Screening and Follow-Up

Abstract

In an effort to identify hearing problems earlier, the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management at Utah State University has teamed up with Head Start and Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) to pilot screening programs in six states. Relevant to Regional Office staff, disabilities coordinators, health coordinators and project directors, this directory provides information about the project's work to promote and improve early screening, as well as contact information for the project itself.

Early Childhood Hearing Screening and Follow-Up

NCHAM's Early Childhood Hearing Outreach (ECHO) Initiative focuses on "echo-ing" successful newborn hearing screening efforts by extending the benefit of periodic hearing screening to children 0 – 3 years of age in a variety of settings including Head Start and Health Care Settings.

NCHAM's ECHO Initiative has received funding from the Administration for Children and Families Office of Head Start as an Innovation and Improvement Project, from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and from the Oticon Foundation.
