Abstract

The questions in this section of the Interview/Self-Study Guide help programs self-reflect on implementation of services (in collaboration of special education systems) for children with disabilities and their families. The interview (or self-study) is useful for Early Head Start/Head Start staff and TA providers responsible for coordination of services to children with disabilities and their families.

The following is an excerpt from Disability Services Interview/Self-Study Guide.


Child Development Services

  • Describe the supervision and support provided Head Start staff on how to address IEP/IFSP objectives in the least restrictive and natural environments.

  • How do teachers/staff/parents and community partners communicate about a child’s progress in addressing the objectives of an IEP/IFSP?

  • What role do special education teachers and therapists play in providing services for Head Start children? How do they communicate with teachers and parents to help the child address objectives in the home and classroom?

  • Describe the services for a currently enrolled Head Start child whose disability has required the most extensive accommodation and special services. Describe adaptations made to address this child’s needs including activities, equipment or facilities? What staff training/support/ongoing supervision is provided? How are community partners involved? How are this child's parents involved and supported?
