Attitudes and values are internal, develop over years of life experiences, and can influence a family worker’s behavior, responses, and approaches in a helping relationship. Managers of family workers will find this survey useful in helping their staff become aware of personal attitudes about substance use and abuse. Because an individual’s attitudes and beliefs about the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol can adversely affect a helping relationship, an awareness of one’s own attitudes and values is critical to family support work.
