Steps to Success Facilitator Guide Unit 1 Module 2: Cultural Sensitivity and Reflective Inquiry (TVI)

Mentor-Coaches and protégés should feel free to share cultural differences and values because each has something to contribute to the Mentor-Coach relationship and their relationship with children. Clip 3 of the Unit 1 Tutored Video Instruction (TVI) will help Mentor-Coaches learn about cultural sensitivity and reflective inquiry. Mentor- Coaches will see how bringing people’s differences into their relationships will start a cultural dialogue that will increase their knowledge and meaningful communication about varied perspectives, cultures, and values. Some of the suggestions the TVI panel provides for building relationships with children, providing security, and supporting their growth include: incorporating children’s culture and values into classroom instruction; involving parents; celebrating the home language.
