Supporting Alphabet Knowledge
Teachers and parents both play a role in supporting children’s acquisition of alphabet knowledge. Mentor-Coaches will see and hear in Clip 7 of the Unit 2 Tutored Video Instruction (TVI) examples of ways to promote alphabet knowledge via sensory recognition or by integrating words and letters from a child’s home language. When teachers individualize support based on each child’s needs, it helps make alphabet learning meaningful and familiar for children.
