Steps to Success Facilitator Guide Unit 3 Module 2: Step 5: Post-Conference Analsys (TVI)

The post-conference analysis is a time for the Mentor-Coach to reflect on their practice in the mentor-coaching role. Mentor-Coaches will benefit from the information in Clip 5 of the Unit 3 Tutored Video Instruction (TVI) that includes the six questions a Mentor-Coach may ask themselves as their reflect: Did I successfully address the conference goals? Did I set realistic expectations for the protégé? How did I help the protégé reflect on their teaching practices? How effective was I in encouraging the protégé to take initiative? Were there are challenges or missed opportunities? What will I do differently next time? In some cases, Mentor-Coaches may talk through their self-analysis with a supervisor or other Mentor-Coach.

Goal setting plays an important role in the professional conferencing process. Clip 6, the final clip of the Unit 3 Tutored Video Instruction (TVI), reviews for Mentor-Coaches the objectives of this TVI and further emphasizes that at the heart of this process is reflection. The more comfortable Mentor-Coaches are with preparing for a professional conference, establishing goals with their protégés, and supporting reflective practice, the better equipped they’ll be to guide their protégés through the process.
