Head Start Collaboration
The 2007 Head Start Act, Section 642B contains provisions for the award of a collaboration grant to each State, including the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and to each national administrative office serving American Indian Head Start programs and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start programs. The purpose of these grants is to facilitate collaboration among Head Start and Early Head Start agencies and entities that carry out activities designed to benefit low-income children from birth to school entry and their families.
Head Start Collaboration Offices conduct an assessment to determine the needs of Head Start grantees with respect to coordination, collaboration, alignment of services and alignment of curricula and assessments. They use the results of the needs assessment to develop a strategic plan to address needs in 10 priority areas. Each year, State Collaboration Office Directors prepare an Annual State Profile Report to document the implementation, progress and results of the project.
