Abstract

Children and families within Head Start and Early Head Start are increasingly linguistically diverse. It is important that children continue to develop their home languages as they become English language users. Issues, challenges, approaches and successful strategies regarding first and second language acquisition in the areas of Curriculum and Teaching, Working with Parents and Families, Assessment and Documentation, Staff Development and Training are identified.
