Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS): Tips for Parents and Caregivers

Placing children on their backs and other safe sleeping precautions are important for reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Parents and caregivers may use these safety tips to properly prepare infants and small children for sleep at home and in child care.

Safe Sleep for My Grandbaby

Tell family members, babysitters, childcare p roviders, and other caregivers to always place your grandbaby on his or her back to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS. Safety Tips for Sleeping Babies
Parents and caregivers must create a safe environment for children while they sleep. The Consumer Product Safety Commission offers tips for sleeping babies in English and Spanish to prevent sleep related injuries. Head Start and Early Head Start health managers, family and community partnership staff, and teachers may use these tips to educate parents and staff on how to protect sleeping babies.
