Is It a Cold or the Flu?
 

Although a cold and flu are both caused by viruses and are both communicable, there are considerable differences between the two illnesses. Head Start health managers can use this tip sheet to educate staff and parents on how to recognize whether someone has a cold or the flu. Cold symptoms tend to be less severe than those of the flu. Additionally, the treatment, prevention, and complications of the two illnesses differ.

Flu symptoms include: high fever that usually lasts for three to four days, headache, aches and pains, and extreme fatigue that can last for several weeks. More>> [PDF, 90.6KB]
