Oral Health – SCHIP Dental Coverage

Abstract

The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) enables states to offer health insurance to children who are not already insured. Head Start health managers, their staff, the Health Services Advisory Committee, oral health consultants and providers will find a description of the coverage of dental services under SCHIP on this page of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) web site. In addition, the page links to other topics related to health insurance such as Medicaid, Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Dental services for the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) are an optional benefit under Title XXI of the Social Security Act for all children up to age 19. However, nearly all States have opted to provide coverage for dental services. More>>
