One of the key management responsibilities of all Head Start and Early Head Start programs is to conduct a self-assessment of their program effectiveness and progress. The self-assessment process provides an opportunity for involving parents and the local community in becoming advocates of quality early childhood services. This section provides a variety of resources that will help management teams meet and exceed the standards for program quality.

Accountability*
The primary goal in managing any federal program is to provide assurance that the program is operating as intended and is achieving expected outcomes. Learn more about the Administration's initiatives on program performance and financial management, as well as a variety of resources to assist you in the oversight of your program's progress.
Evaluation*
Resources such as publications and research reports are provided in this section. This section also provides information regarding some promising practices for program evaluation.
Ongoing
Monitoring*
Ongoing monitoring is a process in
which an agency analyzes its program of services and fiscal operations. Looking for ways to support ongoing monitoring? This section provides the current Federal on-site monitoring instrument. Check back for resources in this section on how to use program reports, self-assessment findings, and other important documents in determining compliance with Federal regulations.
Self-Assessment
At least once per program year, Head Start grantees must conduct an annual self-assessment. This process allows for continuous program improvements. This section provides resources that will guide you through the stages of the self-assessment process.
