The Head Start Act of 2007 reauthorization requires that programs use reliable and valid early childhood assessment and developmental screening instruments that are appropriate for the populations they serve. Program managers and technical assistance providers may use this resource to review technical information on eight commonly used child assessments and 10 developmental screening tools for children ages three to five. User-friendly language promotes increased awareness about reliability and validity, and explains how to evaluate whether an instrument is appropriate for a specific population and purpose.
