What's happening during the lesson?

Objective: The child will explore new blocks.

Introduction: The parent simply placed the widgets on the floor where the child was playing. They were separate pieces.

Procedure:

  1. The child was seemingly ignored for about ten minutes. During that time, he moved the blocks around and experimented.
  2. The taping began five minutes later and the child clapped and left the blocks after a total of fourty-five minutes.

What will I do next?

What surprised you about the child during this lesson?
I was amazed at his persistence as he tried to get the green block to “fit.” The entire incident last more than 45 minutes and despite the many times it fell over, he kept working. His delight at the end of the tape showed how pleased he was when it worked!

How would you describe the teaching that occurred using the words on the Continuum of Teaching Behaviors?
The parent ACKNOWLEDGED his behavior with positive encouragement.
