Strengthening Head Start and Early Head Start teachers’ skills in recognizing mathematics learning opportunities and enhancing their knowledge of early mathematics enables teachers to intentionally use these opportunities to advance children’s mathematical development. Head Start and Early Head Start trainers, education managers, mentor coaches, center directors, and others involved in staff development should work with Head Start and Early Head Start teaching staff and use this PowerPoint presentation, in conjunction with the Practice Finding the Math Training Activity, to promote children’s mathematical development. Patterns, spatial sense, geometry, measurement, and number and operations are all addressed.
