Use of Tobacco, Alcohol, and Illegal Drugs

Directors, caregivers, volunteers, and staff should not be impaired due to the use of alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription medication during program hours. Tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drug use should be prohibited on the premises (both indoor and outdoor environments) and in any vehicles used by the program at all times. In family child care settings, tobacco and alcohol should be inaccessible to children.

Foundation I: Values, Regulations, and Decision-making

This Head Start A to Z session offers leaders the opportunity to become familiar with the underlying tenets of Head Start. It affirms the solid foundation on which Head Start was built. During this session, leaders are asked to reflect on the programs for which they provide leadership. Consider the extent to which the core values of Head Start are evidenced in the daily operations.
