Find resources to help design and distribute Head Start reports and manage recordkeeping activities.
Recordkeeping and reporting are intertwined into a single Head Start management system. They are key to a program's ability to gather and use data effectively. It is in the intersection of recordkeeping and reporting that programs turn data into information.
Well-designed recordkeeping and reporting systems maintain the program's institutional memory and provide critical information to program leaders, staff, families and community partners.
Programs should maintain a confidential file for each child in one central location on-site and should be immediately available to the child's caregivers/teachers (who should have parental/guardian consent for access to records), the child's parents/guardians, and the licensing authority upon request. The file for each child should include specific items.
