The Secretary of Health and Human Services allocates funds to the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) to conduct Head Start research and evaluation. The results guide Head Start program improvement and inform the larger early childhood development field. Dozens of Head Start programs across the country have collaborated with researchers. Their significant contributions have helped with program innovation and evaluation, including the use of systematic data collection, analysis, and interpretation in program operations.
