A Healthy Baby Begins with You

The Office of Minority Health has launched "A Healthy Baby Begins with You" campaign to reduce infant deaths among African-American babies. This brochure offers tips on how African American women may stay healthy before, during, and after their pregnancy. Health managers and family advocates may use this information to educate expectant mothers.  

Infant mortality rates among African-American babies are twice as high as those of the general population. But infant mortality is preventable and a healthy baby begins with you.

An infant's survival and long-term health is influenced by many factors, including the mother's age, health status and behavior during and after pregnancy. Read the full document [PDF, 1.2MB]
