A Disabilities Coordinator's
Story

Dawn is the Disabilities coordinator for the Harrison East Head Start program, and Jenny is the program’s Education Coordinator. When Jenny reviews information for 4 year-old Justin, who has recently enrolled in the program, she notices that his parents have concerns about his development. So she shares the information with Dawn and asks her to get in touch with Justin’s family.

Dawn contacts Justin’s parents to schedule a home visit. She always makes a point to schedule as many meetings as possible at the home, particularly initial appointments, so she can interact with the child and family and get a sense of the home environment.

Read more about how Dawn assists Justin’s family throughout the initial assessment and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and how she brings together a team of teachers, staff, and family to adjust program services to meet Justin’s needs.
