Access to Health Insurance
Health is the foundation of a child's school readiness. For that reason, the Head Start Program Performance Standards require each enrolled child to have a source of accessible, continuous health care, as well as health insurance coverage. If a child does not have these health essentials, programs must assist families in securing care and benefits as quickly as possible.
Children are healthier when their parents and family members also have health insurance. Head Start programs must help parents understand how to access health insurance for themselves and their families, and support them in navigating health systems.
