A Family Note on Finding the Math
While it may not be obvious, children learn math concepts everywhere they go; at home, at the playground, and even out shopping with their family. Head Start educators and families with young children can benefit from the suggestions in this Family Note on Finding Math that highlights suggestions for how families can use everyday experiences to help their children learn math. This Family Note highlights suggestions for learning math during home routines, shopping in the grocery store, and playing in the park. Also included are key ideas and strategies for enhancing these experiences.
Young children begin to develop math concepts and skills very early in the first year of life. Family members play a special role in helping children learn about math. Throughout the day, as families talk, play, or carry out routines, children are learning. Family Notes show ways that families can use everyday experiences to help their young children learn math.
