Duties:
- Carries out program goals and objectives relative to Head Start Performance Standards and local policies and procedures.
- Conducts classroom visits for the purpose of observing staff/team work, classroom environment, activities, curriculum implementation, classroom maintenance, safety, and children’s records.
- Prepare, collect, aggregate, and analyze data to ensure continuous improvement in program operations.
- Provide feedback on data and opportunities for continuous improvement to Education Coordinator, Program Services Team Leader and Head Start/Early Head Start Program Director.
- Must obtain CLASS Observation certifications in Infant, Toddler, or Pre-K during first year of employment at the cost to HRCAP Head Start. Certifications must be maintained annually.
- Assist in updating the education service plan annually, in conjunction with education coordinator, service area managers, policy council, staff and parents.
- Makes recommendations regarding personnel actions for teaching staff in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Prepares an annual assessment of equipment and material needs, recommend the purchase of equipment and materials that meet the age-level of the children.
- Coordinates with Mental Health/Disabilities Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and other service area staff to make provisions for special needs children.
- Work with Mental Health/Disabilities Coordinator and LEAs to represent Education Dept. at Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)/ Individualized Education Planning (IEP), Child Staffing’s, etc. when needed
- Assist the education coordinator in the planning of the educational program with staff and parents
- Supervises the implementation of planned activities in accordance with the Creative Curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards.
- Reviews lesson plans for developmentally appropriate activities and documentation of individualization.
- Plans and assist staff in implementing parent engagement in the education program.
- Assists in the coordination of other service areas in conjunction with education, Early Head Start and Mental Health/ Disabilities, i.e., Health, Nutrition, Family and Community Partnerships, Program Design and Management, and Transportation.
- Conducts orientation and training for new staff, volunteers, and/or consultants.
- Coordinates and implements collaborative efforts in Community Partnerships.
- Conducts periodic Performance Evaluations as required by agency’s personnel policies.
- Conducts individual staff and team meetings.
- Assists each staff member in improving his or her skills and professional competencies, and conducts a training needs assessment for teaching staff.
- Assists education staff with planning home visits and conference, and attending both when necessary.
- Attends management team meetings.
- Coordinates with Early Head Start Coordinator and staff to ensure children’s smooth transition from Early Head Start to Head Start.
- Coordinates with appropriate staff to ensure children’s smooth transition from Head Start to Kindergarten.
- Selects, develops, and evaluates the education curriculum with involvement of Education Coordinator, Program Services Team Leader, Director, Staff and parents.
- Assists the Education Coordinator with planning of ongoing training and professional development for the education staff.
- Support staff concerning issues of classroom environments, behavior management, and inclusion of children with special needs and transitioning of children and their families. This includes, but not limited to phone, e-mail, written reports, record-keeping and tracking of data.
- Assists staff in setting professional/educational goals with individual staff members.
- Plans and attends meetings and conferences as delegated by the Education Coordinator and/or the Head Start Director.
- Complete all assigned and regularly scheduled reports, accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicates with the Education Coordinator on a regular basis regarding classroom activities and staff updates.
- Assist in the transportation effort to ensure safe transport of children to and from Head Start program activities.
- Remain knowledgeable about all Head Start Federal and Local Regulations.
- Ensure that child and family data and Personal Identifiable Information(PII) is kept confidential according policies and procedures.
- Provide services to all customers and staff without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Start Director to ensure that high quality program services are carried out in accordance to HRCAP, local, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications:
- Must have a baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education or a baccalaureate or advanced degree and equivalent coursework in early childhood education;
- Four years of supervisory experience ;at least four years of teaching in a preschool and /or kindergarten setting.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, WORD,EXCEL, and POWERPOINT.
- Ability to manage database systems.
- Must have a successful Criminal Background Check, Child Protective Service registry, physical, and TB test at the time of employment and periodically per state, local and federal requirements.
- Must have and maintain valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
- Must be willing to travel locally and overnight.
