This is a full-time, Non-Civil Service position with Metro Action Commission, and includes medical, dental, pension, and other insurance benefits.
The Early Childhood Mentor Coach will improve child outcomes by supporting teachers through their education practices. The Mentor Coach will observe, assist, support, and strengthen techniques for academic and social and emotional school readiness outcomes. - Establish and maintain a positive, trusting, supportive relationship with education staff.
- Utilize guiding principles of honesty, encouragement and respect when providing feedback to education staff.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, practice conflict resolution skills, have an ongoing commitment to learning; possess good observation skills, and model best practices.
- Ensure education staff is utilizing the curriculum to fidelity, and assessment data to provide developmentally appropriate practices for young children.
- Provide coaching to the education staff that supports their professional development to gain knowledge in providing high quality services to children and families.
- Regularly review data with the education staff to inform and improve outcomes for children.
- Follow practice based coaching model when observing and monitoring education staff.
- Mentor new education staff for 6 months based on the New Staff Onboarding procedure.
- Work collaboratively with the Assistant Center Managers to identify improvement areas to impact ongoing monitoring and best practices for education staff.
- Receive and maintain certification in TPITOS and CLASS.
- Travel to all identified learning communities to provide ongoing coaching and support to education staff.
- Meet on a regular basis with Education and Training Manager and the Education Team.
- Improve instructional outcomes as measured by CLASS/TPITOS and ITERS/ECERS scores.
- Identify strategies for improving teacher-child interactions, and effective strategies.
- Support education staff in their work with culturally, linguistically, developmentally and age diverse groups of young children.
- Participate in personal and professional development activities, including staff meetings, conferences, training opportunities, as identified and approved by Management.
- Accurately complete required program documentation and record keeping in a neat and timely manner.
- Submit end of the month paperwork and reports based on monthly activities.
Complete other duties, as assigned, to ensure program quality and effectiveness.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Minimum of three years’ experience teaching in an early childhood setting.
- 1 year experience training and mentoring early childhood teachers.
- Experience training adult learners, classroom operations, planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum, and tracking and evaluation of children’s individual development.
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and collaborative work preferred.
- Experience working with children with mental health/special needs and/or disabilities.
- Demonstrate professional level organizational, record-keeping, and computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability as a strength-based leader.
- Knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards and Head Start Child Outcomes preferred.
- Knowledge of evaluation and assessment tools including the CLASS tool and the ability to be certified as a Reliable CLASS Rater, the Pyramid Infant Toddler Observation Scale (TPITOS), the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS), Infant and Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS), and the ability to conduct TPITOS, ECERS/ITERS assessments.
- Knowledge of Frog Street, Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG), and Child Plus preferred.
