Summary
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Family Engagement programming including the supervision of Family Advocate and Parent Educator staff. Additionally responsible for overseeing and ensuring appropriate implementation of the ERSEA programming and supervision of the ERSEA Assistant. Responsible for ensuring the implementation and direction of the PFCE Framework across Head Start and Early Head Start.
Essential Duties
- Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Provide regular supervision (including observations and evaluations) and support to Family Advocates, Parent Educators, and the Family Engagement Assistant.
- Ensures the performance of assessments, individual plans, and treatment plans are developed based on Head Start Performance Standard guidelines.
- Participates in and is responsible for program planning, ongoing monitoring, and record keeping and reporting; including data monitoring of all Head Start Performance Standards and State of Michigan Child Care Licensing Rules in relation to family engagement and ERSEA requirements.
- Ensure School Readiness Goals and Program Goals are supported and met through the utilization of the PFCE Framework and Family Engagement Plan.
- Organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions for parents and staff, as needed, regarding parent education topics, family well-being topics, infant and maternal health, disabilities, mental health, and early childhood education.
- Ensure Families in Transition are provided opportunities in accordance with McKinney Vento in partnership with the district Families in Transition Liaison.
- Oversee the coordination and running of parent child socializations, parent committees, and encouraging active parent participation across all programming.
- Coordinate and conduct family group events that promote positive family interactions, family learning, etc. in conjunction with the Health and Nutrition Manager.
- Promote the involvement of fathers in all aspects of children’s education and program service.
- Ensures quality programming in relation to all areas of Family Engagement and ERSEA.
- Ensure all Performance Standards related to ERSEA are implemented to fidelity.
- Maintains the Early Head Start and Head Start wait list as the lead on the placement committee.
- Provide individual and group supervision to Parent Educators and Family Advocates.
- Coordinate required data collection and prepare reports to stakeholders, including the Board, Policy Council and parent committee.
- Ensures the implementation of the chosen Parenting Curriculum.
- Maintains positive relationships with staff, parents, program volunteers, and outside agencies.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with peers to promote a positive work culture.
- Participate in and provide support for the recruitment of eligible children and families to ensure continuous full enrollment.
- Actively assist the program in reaching non-federal share/match (in kind) goals, in accordance with federal guidelines.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Follows all Program, Board, and Policy Council policies, procedures, state laws and regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, and Michigan Child Care Licensing rules.
- Provides support to other positions as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Start Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises Family Advocates, Parent Educators, and the program Family Engagement Assistant. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the employees within the Family Engagement staff. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements and the district’s policies and procedures.
Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
- Two years’ experience working with at risk and diverse populations.
- Infant Mental Health Endorsement and/or experience, preferred.
- Experience using Parents as Teachers and Conscious Discipline curriculums and/or Head Start experience, preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory position, preferred.
