Position Summary
As an Assistant Teacher, you come to work each day excited and ready to make a difference in children's lives. Working cooperatively with another teacher, you teach 2 classes of approx. 17 children each, ages 3-5yrs. One class is in the morning, the other in the afternoon. You help develop weekly lesson plans to ignite the curiosity and growth of the children in our preschool. You assist the Lead Teacher in tracking each child's growth through observations, portfolio documentation, developmental checklist, and assessment data.
Position Requirements
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an associate or baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education/Family and Consumer Studies or a related field is preferred. Enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within one year of the time of hire is required of this position. One year of related experience preferred. Previous Head Start experience preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Other Duties
- Assists in planning, supporting, and implementing learning experiences that advance the children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through the effective implementation with fidelity of the Creative Curriculum for Preschool Sixth Edition and Digital Curriculum Resources.
- Knows, implements, and uses Teaching Strategies GOLD Online Assessment System, PEEP and KEEP Assessment, and ongoing data collection to promote children's progress towards school readiness goals, including that of children with disabilities and dual language learners, across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and the Utah State Early Learning Standards.
- Reviews with classroom team the ongoing assessment, and TS GOLD finalized checkpoints to ensure course corrections are made and implemented to improve children's outcomes.
- Assists in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in TS GOLD, Child Plus Electronic Family Files for children in assigned classrooms, including comprehensive current case notes; compiles monthly reports to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
- Collaborates with Program Specialists, Special Needs Support, Mental Health, Coaches, and school districts in identifying, referring and providing services and support to children with special needs, including those with Individual Education Plans.
- Assists in developing, supporting, and implementing behavior plans and/or appropriate interventions.
- Supports and respects individual children and families' cultural beliefs, including their home language.
- Assists in conducting a minimum of two Home Visits and two Staff-Parent Conferences during the school year.
- Continues professional development through research-based, coordinated coaching strategies, trainings, peer mentoring, and college classes.
- Works collaboratively with staff to implement the Parent, Family and Community Engagement Framework to ensure parents are supported as advocates for their child's individual educational needs; collaborates with staff in providing parent engagement activities that build relationships with families and support their well-being; encourages parents to volunteer in the classroom and maintain 85% attendance.
- Establishes and maintains a safe, healthy learning environment by providing active supervision to all children at all times to ensure their well-being, and includes being actively engaged with children in learning activities indoors and outdoors.
- Ensures two staff members are present at all times while class is in session.
