Purpose Statement: The EHS Teacher provides a safe, appropriate, and nurturing environment for children that meets all DHS and Head Start standards and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary care provider for a small group of children.
- Provide for the care, safety and well-being of all children in the group in a nurturing manner.
- Plan and implement a program geared to infants and toddlers from The Creative Curriculum and assessment system and School Readiness Goals.
- Set up the physical environment to meet the changing needs of infants and toddlers.
- Demonstrate understanding of Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and competence in the completion and utilization of Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment.
- Provide a variety of appropriate material and activities which promote development, changing materials as needed.
- Demonstrate verbally and by role modeling the sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development.
- Interact/talk frequently with infants and toddlers encouraging them to use language.
- Utilize a variety of appropriate books, stories, and songs with infants and toddlers to motivate them to listen, learn, love and respect books
- Making decisions at assigned times in the absence of the Center Coordinator during odd scheduling hours or during an emergency.
- Participate in staff meetings, discussions and on-going training regarding program, children and parents.
- Communicate daily with parents regarding the health and safety of children as well as sharing child development information.
- Assist in the supervision and training of volunteers, substitutes and parents.
- Observe and assess the development of infants and toddlers in conjunction with the parents.
- Keep current and accurate records on each child.
- Participate in transition meetings and ensure children are transitioned into the next placement when they reach their third birthday.
- Participate in the Child Development Associate (CDA) training program and/or AAS ECE Degree Program.
- Obtain the required Department of Human Services training hours.
- Ensure communication with appropriate staff when a disability is suspected.
- Participate in at least two home visits each program year.
- Assist with organizing the parent committee and attend monthly meetings.
- Monitor child attendance and provide family support to reduce absenteeism.
- Make weekly home visits to pregnant women and parents of newborns.
- Establish and maintain child files according to record keeping procedures.
- Act as an advocate for parents with agencies and school system.
- Participate in Family Team Meetings.
- Preserve the confidentiality and integrity of all program information.
- Attendance is an essential function of your day-to-day responsibility and commitment to the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as this job description is in no way intended to include all responsibilities of the position, but rather to provide a general overview of what is expected of the position holder.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must obtain Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate Credential (I/T CDA) within a designated time.
- Current Tennessee Drivers License and vehicle with liability insurance.
- Ensure physical examination and TB screening/test every three years.
