POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, implements and maintains safety guidelines and regulations, monitors program safety, performs inspections, and provides maintenance and repair services for Head Start/Early Head Start facilities in compliance with all college, federal, state and local regulations. Maintains warehouse operations, and supports transportation services as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintains warehouse operations. Orders and tracks supplies. Organizes stock materials, performs inventory, receives shipments and distributes stored material to and from warehouse and Head Start facilities. Transports supplies between worksites.
- Completes regularly scheduled playground inspections. Identifies repairs needed, assigns appropriate tasks to Facilities Technician, and monitors completion.
- Monitors site safety. Ensures regular facilities checks and assessments are completed. Inspects sites for needed repairs or potential safety hazards, makes corrections, and reports unique hazardous conditions to facilities management. Reviews multi-site data for trends and provides recommendations for improvements.
- Prioritizes, assigns, and performs work order requests in a timely manner and communicates closely with the project requestor to provide details of project scheduling and completion.
- Tracks and monitors key checkouts. Makes keys, and installs and repairs door locks and hardware.
- Supports the implementation of safe practices using OSHA guidelines. Trains staff in proper safety protocols, and ensures that work areas are clean, orderly, and compliant.
- Assists in monitoring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting commissions, licensing requirements, and with CDFS and administrative regulations and Board policies as appropriate. Analyzes requirements and makes recommendations for program updates and improvements.
- Provides training to staff on facility and environmental safety topics.
- Leads and performs basic construction work, including constructing and maintaining wood structures (i.e. landscape structures, small sheds, and basic furniture), repairing shed roofing and non-skid stair strips, and installing bulletin boards, wall partitions, and storage areas. Performs basic plumbing repairs, including unclogging toilets. Leads and performs painting projects at program sites.
- Performs basic vehicle maintenance and repairs. Fuels, cleans, and performs routine daily checks and preventative maintenance on all equipment used.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Attends training sessions and participates in professional training opportunities.
- Serves as back-up food service driver during emergencies and/or short notice situations.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate·
- Four (4) years of experience in facilities maintenance and repair
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- Current driver’s license, insurance and access to reliable automobile during work hours for transportation to off-campus sites.
- Must have at least three (3) years of driving history
- Experience working with diverse backgrounds of the College’s community, students and employees; demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity
At the college’s discretion, additional education/experience above may be substituted for experience/education on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment
- Post-offer fitness for duty evaluation, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date:
- TB screening
- Health appraisal
- Infant/Child First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within 60 days of hire date
- Complete trainings required by Department of Early Learning and Care (DELC) licensing within 30 days of hire
- Possess Forklift Operator Certificate or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date.
Desired Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in a related field, completion of a technical, vocational, apprenticeship program and/or certification in carpentry, painting, plumbing, or facilities maintenance.
- Locksmith certification
- Certification in Integrated Pest Management
- Experience in Head Start or Early Head Start
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing deadlines
- Ability to assist in monitoring program safety and complete playground, site, and warehouse inspections.
- Ability to train and monitor staff in safe practices according to OSHA guidelines.
- Ability to foster a team environment that encourages and supports teamwork Ability to frequently lift 50 pounds on a daily basis and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds, without assistance,
- Ability to work at heights of 12 feet for step ladders and up to 20 feet for extension ladders.
- Ability to wear protective body gear including respirator, face mask, hardhat, body suit, ear protection, knee pads, safety glasses, and gloves

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to many potential hazards: extreme weather conditions, varying terrains, frequent noise extremes, heights up to 85 feet, dimly lit or confined spaces, and areas of high vehicular traffic. Requires extensive mobility to perform the following for extended periods of time on a daily basis: stand, sit, bend, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds without assistance, manipulate items overhead, to work or stand on uneven work areas, and to work in dimly lit or confined spaces. Regularly exposed to potentially hazardous materials, chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and insects. Required to use protective body gear, and works with a variety of equipment and power tools. Drives college-owned vehicles and heavy equipment.
