JOB SUMMARY
The Center Aide works in multiple preschool classrooms with children in order to provide coverage for staff breaks and planning. They ensure the safety of children at all times. They are under the day to day supervision of the assigned classroom Teacher.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Position Specific Duties:
- Assists in carrying out classroom schedule and daily routines as established by the regular classroom staff.
- Assists in implementing a planned classroom curriculum.
- Takes direction from the assigned Teacher or other classroom staff.
- Assists in preparing activities, maintaining supplies and equipment.
- Assists with cleaning and maintenance as required by the site.
- Uses developmentally appropriate and positive guidance with children, and follows the program Child Guidance Policy.
- Implements the six Active Supervision strategies with children at all times.
- Prepares food for meals in a safe and sanitary environment following local and CACFP regulations.
- Helps with setting up the meals in the classroom and with meal clean up.
General Duties:
- Reports suspected child abuse in accordance with Oregon Statute and Head Start procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters concerning Head Start families.
- Interacts with children and families in a supportive and professional manner.
Additional Duties
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to carry out oral and written directions, read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed for the position described
- Ability to lift 50 pounds when working

Additional Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment
- Must be enrolled in the Oregon Registry Online
- Post-offer fitness for duty evaluation, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date:
- TB screening
- Health appraisal
- Food handler’s card, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training must be completed within 60 days of hire date
- Introduction to Child Health and Safety training must be completed within 30 days of hire date
