Duties:
MAJOR JOB RESPONISBILITES
- Classroom management and supervision of children.
- Participate and interact with children both indoors and outdoors. This includes developing and implementing instructional strategies to be used in outdoor play.
- Develop, plan, document and implement, and monitor daily lesson plans and all other educational needs.
- Implement daily curriculum.
- Prepare materials for learning activities and guide children in their participation in these activities.
- Demonstrate effective teacher-child interactions to affect children’s social and academic development.
- Create and maintain a positive climate for children.
- Plan, document, and implement special activities for the children.
- Plan, document, and implement activities for all children, i.e., multi-cultural, bilingual, disabilities, etc.
- Arrange and maintain assigned learning centers in an attractive, safe, and developmentally appropriate way.
- Plan, document, and implement integration of personal care routines, which include hand washing, toileting/diapering, tooth brushing and other preventative health practices.
- Ensure daily implementation of family style meal service.
- Record on-going observations as anecdotal records indicate.
- Ensure safe and sanitary environments for children by routinely inspecting classroom and other center areas for safety, health and fire violations and report deficiencies to the Education Coordinator and perform corrective action when required. (Remove unsafe toys, broken glass, etc.)
- Participate and assist in emergency related drills such as medical/dental accidents, fires/ tornado/hurricane and be familiar with posted procedures.
- Conduct the designated child assessment for the children in (your) classroom.
- Utilize child assessment data to plan individualized instructional programs for children and to support instructional decision making.
- Document children’s intellectual, physical, and emotional growth and work over a period of time through assessments and other strategies.
- Maintain all current records and perform tasks associated with the education component of the program.
- Maintain required paperwork and meet all deadlines.
- Maintain child’s education file.
- Conduct two home visits) and two (2) parent/teacher conferences per year as needed to discuss the child’s needs and progress. (Minimum of two per year per child)
- Encourage and support parental involvement in child’s curriculum and program.
- Support the involvement of parents in curriculum selection and development.
- Design and provide parent/child activities for reinforcement in the home.
- Responsible for all consultation(s) with parents/guardians
- Participate in meetings with parents/guardians.
- Keep all records and parental discussions concerning individual students and their families confidential.
- Plan and coordinate activities with other center staff members.
- Attend staff meetings, training and other related meetings, as requested.
- Assist in the provision for education related training for staff and parents.
- Implement the goals, policies and activities designed for the education component objectives, performance standards and instructions.
- Provide input into the annual education component plan.
- Abide by the Head Start Standards of Conduct
- Plan, document, and implement experiences required by the Performance Standard.
Qualifications:
Head Start Teacher I
- Associates in ECE (Early Childhood Education) or equivalent.
Head Start Teacher II
- A bachelor’s or advanced degree in early childhood education, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education.
All Teachers
- Must pass a background check including fingerprints.
- Must pass a health examination and periodic re-examinations.
- Must pass a drug and alcohol test and random drug and alcohol tests.
