- Assist in providing and maintaining a safe healthy learning environment to prevent injuries in the center.
- Assist in the physical maintenance and care of the center facility such as mopping, sweeping, and cleaning, sanitizing and garbage disposal.
- Serve as kitchen aide with guidance from Cook or Assistant Cook.
- Assist with general clerical duties (making copies, assembling packets, shredding, etc.) as assigned.
- Perform safety checks (playground, classroom) as assigned.
- Attend meetings as requested by supervisor
- Follow all applicable process and procedures as indicated in the Transportation Manual.
- Assist Lead/Bus Driver in securing a safe loading and unloading zone at all times.
- Clean/sanitize Child Passenger Restraints (CPR) and school bus interior, as scheduled by Lead Bus Driver.
- When last child is escorted off of bus, perform end-of-route inspection rear to front of bus, including under the seats to ensure that no child is left on the bus.
- Direct Bus Driver, while outside of bus, in any emergency back-up operations.
- Follow written instructions in completing the Transportation Attendance portion of the Transportation Attendance/Seating Chart Form.
- Assist Bus Driver in Pre-Trip Inspection.
- Receive and properly store all medications and breast milk. Follow procedures for receipt of medication as indicated in Health Services and Transportation Manuals.
- Report to Center Director and Lead Bus Driver, any incidents, accidents or situations that occur while the child is on the bus; complete written documentation if needed.
- Follow the Child Development and Education Manual applicable process and procedures
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain a professional attitude with open communication and support a positive environment to promote social, emotional and mental wellness of staff, children and families.
- Encourage parents to volunteer and attend meetings.
- Deliver Center news and other pertinent information to parents.
Professional Development
- Attend and participate in pre-service and in-service training as requested by supervisor, including annual Bus Monitor training (if applicable).
- Work towards credential or certification as recommended by supervisor [e.g.: Child Development Associate (CDA) or Food Handler].
- Attend training according to Professional Development Plan.

Education and Experience
Preferred: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED), and documented years of experience in child care.
Accepted: Enroll in GED program and completion within two years of hired in the position.
Skills, Knowledge and Ability: Excellent communication skills. Able to organize, file and distribute information and work under stressful conditions.
Working Conditions: Head Start center and bus transportation environment; flexible work hours occasional (evening/ weekend/overtime). Travel independently into rural areas and occasional overnight stay. Work outside a minimum of one (1) hour per day in varying weather conditions. Lunch break will vary depending on needs of the center.
Physical Requirements: Physically able to perform tasks, including but not limited to, bending, lifting and moving a minimum of 25 pounds.
