Dual Language Learners Program Assessment (DLLPA): Child Screenings and Assessments

Determine how your program's screening and ongoing assessment practices incorporate the use of valid and reliable measures for the populations and purpose for which they are intended. When serving a child who speaks a language other than English, programs must use qualified bilingual staff, a contractor, or consultant to assess children's language skills in English and in their home languages. They must also evaluate both the child's progress in their home language and in English language acquisition. It's important that qualified and trained personnel conduct screenings and assessments that are developmentally, culturally, linguistically, and age-appropriate. This section is part of the DLLPA tool.
