Getting a Friend’s Attention
Teacher: Ask someone to help me show the kids how to share a toy, but this one says, let's see. Does anyone know what this boy is doing?
Child: Tapping her hand here. On her shoulder.
Teacher: Quiet hand. Aquaria, what is this kid doing?
Aquaria: He's tapping a girl on the shoulder.
Teacher: He's tapping her shoulder, remember he's asking ... he's getting a friend's attention. Okay, let's see. Who's going to help me with this?
Children: Me. Me. Me.
Teacher: Navan. We are going to get a friend's attention by tapping on the shoulder just like this little boy is doing. Let's see, could you... let's see. Let's look. Could you go get Peter's attention by tapping him on the shoulder?
Navan: Peter, come play with me.
Teacher: Oh. Way to go. Wow, you guys.Close
In this video, an educator leads a group activity to teach young children how to ask a friend to play by first tapping their friend on the shoulder and pointing to what they want to play. She then calls on children to demonstrate the skill.
