On the first day, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Office of Early Childhood Development (ECD) is hosting a listening session on the Tribal Integrated Early Education Services (TIEES) legislative proposal. TIEES would recognize Tribal sovereignty and self-determination by giving Tribes and Tribal Organizations flexibility to integrate ACF early childhood education funding streams — Child Care and Development Fund, Head Start, and Tribal Home Visiting — into a single, coordinated, culturally-grounded, comprehensive, and Tribally-driven program with reduced administrative costs and streamlined program and reporting requirements. This session provides an overview of the legislative proposal, how it would authorize the integration of funds for Tribal early childhood education services, and the proposed flexibility offered through TIEES that aims to return more decision making to Tribes so that they can better center their culture, language, and values in programs that reach children during their most formative years.
